Today we’d like to introduce you to MJ Nejad.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Back in July of 2015, I got into a motorcycle accident and when I thought that was my last day alive I ended up with several broken bones, then in ten days later sadly I lost my very young uncle due to choking on his food. These two events made me realize how short life can be and how easily we can loose it. So during my recovery time, I decided to follow my heart and start looking for a career that involves working with dogs.
However, dog grooming was not in my list till one day randomly at the vet office I asked the couple next to me if I could pet their dog, the response was ” she is Aggressive ” and that’s why they had travel 45 min to go to that vet to get the dog groomed and every other groomer had rejected her. I said I take my chance and I’ll be 100% responsible if she bites me then approached the dog. She sniffed me then start wagging her tail, the owners were in shock and that was when I realized that maybe I should become a groomer so I can help all the dogs that been labeled as an aggressive. I start taking closer look in to the industry and find out it is very high demand for good groomers. So I start going to the school and learning how to groom. After getting my certificate by 4/1/2016 I had My first mobile pet grooming spaw which I designed myself, I combined my background in sales, customer service and management with grooming and within 3months by July 2016 was able to open my second mobile unit. I worked harder and harder every day and I was able to get my 3rd mobile unit in November 2016. Providing my clients with top of the line service and fair pricing have resulted in many pawsitive reviews online and higher demand for our services. So now I am opening my salon by the end of 7/2017 so hopefully that can help us with waiting time period. This business also allows me to volunteer at the animal shelter and do my part. My story is a proof of hard work and being passionate about what you do plus showing that you care about your clients would make you successful no matter what.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, any new business has some challenges and that is what making it more exciting.
My main challenge always been finding good, reliable groomers, I have few very good people working with me but I could use few more.
Another challenge was funding the business which my saving has helped me to overcome that and handle it little easier.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the MJ’s Pet Spaw story. Tell us more about the business.
At MJ’s Pet Spaw, we pride ourselves on providing a luxury pet experience at an affordable price. From professional grooming to basic training and dog walking, we offer a variety of services and solutions and a fun, safe, spa-like environment for our human clients and four-legged loved ones.
What makes me proud is being able to volunteer at the shelters and helping with the forgotten angels also having a very successful bed and blanket drive and being able to provide about 700 blankets and beds along with many other needed items to several different shelters.
What set us apart from many is the fact that we choose what we do based of our heart’s desire and we enjoy every second of it even dealing with not so easy dogs is still a pleasure.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Pet industry is a recession proof industry and it will just grow bigger, most people love their pets and with the help of social media they are getting more educated about how to care for their furry family member.
